Matthew Horney: Brewmaster – BJCP Certified Judge

My passion for beer and beverages began with my family.  We had a very wine and beer centric family growing up.  My dad worked for Stroh’s and homebrewed, my grandparents made Dandelion Wine, my uncle was also in to craft wine and homebrew.  For the longest time I knew growing up that I wanted to follow a creative career.  I found my passion in the environment and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Landscape Architecture. My background in design fed my desire to think, create, and problem solve and my love for the craft of beer seemed to follow right along.  Today, my focus hasn’t changed….my goal remains to brew beer that is true and honest.  No gimmicks just the finest, most flavorful, layered, complex, and inviting beers that satisfy, surprise, and simply leave a satisfied impression that lasts.

Since joining Old Rail Brewing in 2012, Matthew has received accolades in multiple competitions earning two Silver Medals and two Bronze.  The most memorable is the Old Rail Dopplebock which tied Sam Adams for Bronze.
